This hike started from the parking lot and cut through Ponderosa parkland to Gillies Creek Road, which we followed high up the valley before crossing north-west towards the 'Garnet' burn area, the highest point of which we now call 'Charcoal Mountain', where we took lunch. Mountain Ladyslipper orchids and a Nighthawk resting on the ground where two of the highlights.
